Moving to San Diego? Where to live?

I remember five years ago when my husband told me that we were moving to San Diego, I started panicking. First of all, I knew nothing of San Diego. Well, ok, not true, I did know about Sea World located in San Diego.
But we didn't know a soul here. We didn't know where to live, what cities have the best school? The unknown was indeed scary and I had a lot of sleepless nights... staying up and researching about San Diego. I went to forums, message board trying to digging in further.
He told me that he was going to work in Sorrento Valley. So I started to find out more about the surrounding areas and hired a realtor! He was very nice and sent me a bunch of homes for sale in the 20 mile radius of Sorrento Valley.  We looked thru them and basically narrow down to North County. During the company paid preview trip, my husband, hired another realtor that his colleague had recommended. I was sorry I had to say goodbye to the guy I hired. He was cool and understanding.
Anyway, from the new realtor (specialized in Scripp Ranch), showed us three homes in the Scripps Ranch and Mira Mesa areas. It was during Christmas week and I remember seeing wrapping papers on the floor,  decorations on the homes we saw. Long story short, we ended up buying a new home in Carlsbad. We love it here so much that we don't think we will ever move. We love that we are 4 miles from the beach (who needs Hawaii?), Legoland for our boys, Outlet Mall for me, and lagoons for my husband to go fishing.
The only drawback at that time was the drive to work for my husband. I-5 is known for traffic jam every day!
But still, living in Carlsbad has been good to us.
Here's a good website I found that will show you live traffic. Sigalert.com
Oh, my husband does not work there anymore.
